Young Katie Holmes first started attending modeling school, at the age of fourteen.

She competed in the International Modeling and Talent Associationat performing a monologue from "To Kill a Mockingbird", in New York City (1996).

She made her big screen debut in drama movie The Ice Storm (1997) in role as Libbets Casey.

Her breakthrough performance came as Joey Potter in teen drama television series Dawson's Creek (1998-2003).
